Blog about Gabriola Island
Blog, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn. Oh My Gosh, there’s so much to do, and so much to read about. So here goes. I provide newsy information from time to time, but mostly I like to provide the ‘real’ side of life on Gabriola, what we do, why we love what we do, and the business aspect of selling and buying Gabriola real estate, mortgages and those that could be a part of your new life here on Gabriola.
I’m involved in the Lions Club on Gabriola, Welcome Wagon, Coast Realty Group Gabriola as a Realtor®, Silva Bay Yacht Club, Garden Club, and more. I love it. Do I sound excited and happy? Yes! Enjoy my blog. Like me on Facebook. Tag along on Twitter. LinkedIn if you want to share your business. Recently, I received the Seniors Real Estate Specialists® or SRES® designees and now qualify to address the needs of home buyers and sellers age 50+. Cool! Oh, wait a minute. My garden needs me for a wee bit; to put in a winter vegetable garden. Back later!

“Now that’s a long, tall drink of ‘Sexy’” is now Shelagh Rogers, laughter with that big warm smile of her’s, introduced Russell deCarle, celebrated Canadian songwriter, lead singer and founding member of Prairie Oyster. On stage along with Russell where Denis Keldie playing the accordion in a true Zydeco style like I remember in N’Orleans, and Steve Briggs, guitarist with soul. We all felt that ...

Ah, Yes! There’s a little gypsy in all of us! Toe-tapping, swaying to the lilt, romantic rhythms sung in the native language of these gifted performers. “Saje” took us on travels through Italy, Spain, Hungary, France, Ireland spinning songs of passion and then slipped us back to Gabriola. It was a full house at The Roxy on Saturday, June 5th, and “Saje’s” CD launch party. Lou Gradanti, Maestro & arrangements, piano and accordion sang delightfully in ...

Nia embodies freedom of dance, awareness of self, joy of movement and breath. Missy Nobels is a White Belt Nia teacher living on Gabriola. To put this in a sense which I could understand when I started exploring Nia about 3 years ago, it is a combination of aerobics, rhythm, Tai Chi, Jazz, Modern Dance, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do and Yoga, movement and dance. Very physical, intense, expanding as you become aware of your body’s universal energy. Missy teaches in Nanaimo and Gabriola, and points fu...

Coast Realty’s Community Day, Thursday, May 27, 2010 found us at our Gabriola Museum pulling garden tools, rakes, snips, wheelbarrows and tarps out of the back of our cars for a full day of a landscape face-lift. Most plants are indigenous to our natural habitat and were in dire need of care and more sunshine. Rakes flying, snips snipping, piles of underbrush were gathered and burned or composted or chipped-up and all done with smiles, laughter and determination to get the job done in one ...

Our Lulu Performing Arts has done it again!
A stunning presentation by Jack Glatzer, violinist currently living in Portugal, lectured and played music of the Mediterranean engaging us in each melody and caprice as they originated from the 1700 – 1900’s. Pre concert chat between Jack Glatzer and Patsy Ludwick revealed to us at the full-house Gabriola United Church venue, more of this artist, his global musical travelling and lecturing style. Caprice 24 in A Minor, a very recogn...

Craftingly good food. Robert's Place opened on Mother's Day, May 9, 2010 to an awaiting Gabriola crowd. I waited till a break, and today, Monday at lunch I strolled in. What a transformation. Light colours, new fixtures, new layout, kitchen, flooring and new outside deck. The menu has a blend of Suzy's tried and true, and Robert's infusion to the new and exciting. My pick today: Gabriola Burger, beef, jalapenos, melted cheese on a bun, con fries and coleslaw. Delish! Classy surroundings, funky-j...

I'm so blessed to have a neighbour as Melinda Wilde, gifted watercolour artist on Gabriola. One of my favourite watercolours by Melinda is the "View to Entrance Island" as well as "Bell of the Landscape". Both feature the rugged and beautiful Arbutus tree, stretching it's trunk well over the edge of a craggy cliff outcropping. Makes one wonder how it hangs on year after year, in wild winds and storms. Check out her site. Not only does Melinda paint landscapes, she has a sense to our wildlife on ...

Gabriola Lions Club teamed up with GaLTT, Gabriola Land and Trails for two consecutive Sundays in May 2010, pulling broom at Drumbeg Park. Forging ahead, about 20 willing volunteers carved a large swath through the thick underbrush of this invasive plant, pulling, cutting and stacking broom. GaLTT provided guidance and education on the eradication of this plant. At the end of the day, we all saw the progress achieved when willing hands make light work. A feel good Broom Pulling Party, the first ...

Thought we'd put together comments from the guest book of Cliff Cottage on Gabriola Island. "We have been fortunate to travel all over the world but there is no place like Gabriola, BC and the views and peaceful ambiance make your home very special. If this isn’t Paradise, it must be right next door. What a lovely respite from city life. Thank you for the sanctuary at Cliff Cottage B&B. What can we say! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! That includes the accommodations, food, locale and most ...
