The map shows it all: As an island we are unique, with one foot, so to speak, in a rural country life, and the other foot a short ferry ride away from the Nanaimo city-life, on Vancouver Island. Gabriola Island is the closest and most easily accessed Gulf Island to Vancouver. The most northerly of the southern Gulf Islands and with a population of about 5,500 Gabriola is an island of beautiful beaches, sculptured shorelines, with parks aplenty.
A peaceful, rich way of life: If you like winding country roads, pleasant walks along the beach and parks that tell of ancient history, you`ll love Gabriola Island.
Our inherent atmosphere is relaxed, and in a broad form "island life" rests upon you like a gentle blanket. However, our community is rich in artistic pursuits, and world renown in many aspects. Fifty studios grace our island with a myriad of interests, pottery, paintings, jewelry, glass works to name a few. Thanksgiving weekend, hosts our Studio & Gallery Tour. You might be surprised whom you see chatting it up, in vibrant conversations.
Farmer`s markets open in two locations from May to October. Festivals liven the atmosphere of fun and good family living. In fact, community spirit mixed with family living is what we do best.

Gabriola welcomes you to four provincial parks, many restaurants and pubs, two marinas and numerous public beaches. We have most of the conveniences and professional services you need, as well as a supermarket, and wine and beer stores. The Roxy provides a venue of movies, old and new, and musical as well as theatrical performances. And, we even have a state-of-the-art fitness gym, yoga and pilates.
Hike, cycle, scuba dive, kayak, fish, golf, beach comb, swim, play tennis. Gabriola, one of the most beautiful of Gulf Islands, westcoast British Columbia, Canada, has this and much more.
A natural environment like no other: Sparkling seas, rocky shores, sandy beaches, striking Arbutus trees, a Mediterranean climate, and wealth of wildlife in the sea and on the land combine to create a unique natural paradise. Amazing, Gabriola.

Not only known as the "Isle of the Arts" Gabriola is well known as the "Island of the Petroglyphs" and one of the most extensive petroglyph sites on the Gulf Islands is located behind the United Church. Sea creatures, geometric shapes, dancing human figures and a variety of animal-like mythological creatures which stretch our imagination are carved into the bedrock, and can be seen in a bare rock clearing behind the church. Wind, weather and footsteps, are compromising this archaeological site. Tread carefully.
Malaspina Galleries carved out by sea erosion are a marvel of nature. Spring Beach, another natural erosion of huge boulders of sandstone, and conglomerate rock forms.
