I’d say, as a gardener on Gabriola, most if not all of about a population of about 5,000 of us on Gabriola Island, garden. The few of us that don’t, are not that far away from finding the ways and means of procuring choice some greens, flowers, produce at all times of the year. One day, about seven years ago, I moved to Gabriola Island from Vancouver. Why? Why? I said to myself, when I was happily a city-girl, lived on 24/7 stamina and loved the glitz and glamour. Love my Lilacs! In my back garden, and just off the deck is a mature lilac, which loyally produces blooms every year, so sweet scented and large they seem the harbinger of Spring on Gabriola. What a knock out day!Beautiful weather, not too hot, not too cool, the gardens were in top form.Gabriola Home & Garden Tour is a fundraiser for our People for a Healthy Community, we call PHC on Gabriola.Visitors from Vancouver, as well as bus load of garden enthusiasts from somewhere (Vancouver Island, I think) arrived and mingled with the locals, for a delightful show of gardens at their best.But back to PHC.
